Environmental Impact

Concerns over the use of fossil fuels and other sources of atmospheric carbon are reaching boardrooms across the United States. Greenhouse gas effects on climate change will affect government policy as well as daily decisions facing business owners as all look for ways to reduce energy inputs to save CO2 as well as lower costs.

By using Induction lighting our clients are significantly reducing their lighting electric consumption (average reductiion between 30%-70%), thereby having a positive impact on the environment.  Less demand for power on local utilities reduces electrical power generation.

Our Induction Lamps offer a LEED qualifying “Green”  lighting product that eliminates toxic waste disposal costs with 100% recyclable mercury.

The Problem:
Release of Mercury in the Environment

Fluorescents/Metal Halides/Sodium Lamps:

If a fluorescent, Metal Halide, High or Low Pressure Sodium lamp is broken, the mercury can contaminate the surrounding environment and poison its inhabitants. Because of this, the safe cleanup of broken and/or worn out bulbs requires extra care in handling and disposal.

A 1987 report described a 23-month-old toddler hospitalized due to mercury poisoning traced to a carton of 8-foot fluorescent lamps that had broken.  Organizations such as healthcare facilities, schools, business offices, restaurants and food storage facilities should pay particular attention to this potential health hazard.

Even Compact fluorescent lamps (CFL’s) which are commonly touted as a device to combat global warming can pose a small risk of mercury poisoning to infants, young children, and pregnant women if they break.

The Solution:
Solid Mercury that is 100% Recyclable

Induction Lamps:

RealTime Technology Group's lamps contains solid amalgam mercury (which is 100% recyclable), versus the highly volatile liquid mercury found in other lighting products.  The solid mercury is contained in a small glass tube located just off to the side of the main bulb so in the event of a break or a bulb replacement, the small glass tube simply needs to be broken off and mailed back to RealTime Technology Group, Inc. for recycling.

This feature in addition to it's energy efficiency, makes the RealTime electromagnetic lamp a "green" lighting solution.
